The former Univision executive will oversee Azteca America’s operations in Houston.
Melissa Covarrubias Named GM Of KYAZ
Azteca America today appointed Melissa Covarrubias vice president and general manager of its KYAZ Houston (DMA 8). Covarrubias will report to Enrique Perez, Azteca America EVP, station group.
Covarrubias most recently was VP of sales and marketing for ZipCast from 2014 to 2017 and special events consultant for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston since 2016.
Covarrubias served in various roles for Univision Communications Inc. in Houston over 13 years. She held the title of local sales manager from 2001 to 2010 and then was VP-director of sales from 2010 to2014.
She began her career as an account executive for HBC Radio from 1998 to 2001.
“Melissa is a proven leader in Hispanic media sales and marketing with deep relationships in the Houston market,” said Perez. “Her unparalleled knowledge of the market and the industry make her the ideal fit to lead our Houston station. She will work closely with the community and our partners to deliver a deeper connection to our station and our programming.”
As of today, Covarrubias also begins her post as president of the Media Alliance of Houston, a national, nonprofit whose mission is to act as a foundation of leaders with a unity of purpose to promote progress and create change in the Houston area.
Covarrubias received a B.A. from Texas A&M University.
