NBC Names Doebler GM Of WMAQ Chicago

David Doebler, the former head of the network's WVIT Hartford-New Haven, Conn., is tapped to lead its Windy City O&O.

The NBC Owned Television Stations division of NBCUniversal today announced that David Doebler has been named president and general manager of WMAQ Chicago (DMA 3), effective immediately. He replaces Larry Wert who left the station last month to become the president of local broadcasting at Tribune Co.

A broadcast industry veteran, Doebler brings more than 25 years of local television experience to his new role, most recently as president-GM of NBC’s WVIT Hartford-New Haven, Conn., a position he has held for the last eight years.

Before WVIT, Doebler was the president-GM of WVTM Birmingham, Ala., that was owned at the time by NBCUniversal, for four years. He was also the VP of creative services and sales for the formerly NBC-owned WNCN Raleigh, N.C., for three years.

Doebler began his career in local television working in a variety of sales roles at WCAU Philadelphia for 11 years.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Rowan University in New Jersey.
