DMA 6: SAN FRANCISCO

News Anchor Steve Aveson Joins KRON

Media General’s MNT affiliate KRON San Francisco (DMA 6) has added ABC News veteran Steve Aveson to its news department.

“Steve’s first day is May 2 and he will begin co-anchoring and reporting starting as early as May 5”, said KRON News Director Aaron Pero. “He will co-anchor with Pam Moore on the 6, 8 and 11 p.m. newscasts. Starting Monday, May 1, he will also co-anchor the new KRON4 News At Ten.”

Anchoring live and breaking news has been a focus of Aveson’s work over the years. From the Olympics bombing in Atlanta, to tragedies at Columbine and Oklahoma City, he has covered many historic events.

While anchoring the ABC’s Discovery News science program, he shared first live images from Mars on July 4, 1997, and later, he anchored live coverage of John Glenn’s historic return to space in the shuttle program. Also with ABC News, he covered the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and was a featured storyteller in ABC’s worldwide Millennial coverage in addition to many other stories for Good Morning America and 20/20.

Aveson went to the University of California at Santa Barbara before taking a year to travel with the circus. He graduated from Wheelock College in Boston, where he began his career in journalism.
