On The IBC Exhibit Floor: Ross Video

Ross Video | Stand 11.C10 | Website: https://www.rossvideo.com/

Ross Video has multiple IP-related initiatives it will show at IBC. Following last year’s IBC announcement that Ross Video is a key technology partner in the delivery of live production workflows over IP at the YouTube Space London facility, the company will share its advancements over the past year related to the ability to move high bandwidth, real-time, studio quality video over IP networks and address the need to integrate proven broadcast control systems into these new workflows and networks. These efforts continue to be guided by Ross’ One Network vision, which recognizes most networks are a mix of technologies and vendors today and will be for the foreseeable future – and it’s interoperability that gives content creators and producers the maximum return on their infrastructure investment.

RAPTOR-EDGE — A bidirectional 12-stream studio video over IP (SVIP) gateway with software-defined media processing that employs SMPTE ST 2110. RAPTOR-EDGE is COTS-friendly and platform agnostic – 40GE, 6+6 12G-SDI, or some combination thereof.

Ultricore IP-routing switching control — This COTS implementation offers shared infrastructure across applications including real-time studio video, audio, and control, synchronization and file transfer.

One of the largest challenges in making the transition to a COTS-based IP solution is that COTS technology was not designed for the operational requirements of broadcast. With the move to IP, effective orchestration is essential for system reliability. As well, orchestration and control of IP-based infrastructure should look and feel the same post migration so established workflows are not disrupted. All of this can be achieved through IP-enabled virtualization, or Software Defined Production, which also has the potential to increase utilization of video production infrastructure from an average of 20% to upwards of 80%. This is exactly why Ross continues to invest heavily in Software Defined Production and show attendees are encouraged to see Ross’ IP Virtualization demo on the show floor.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Once again, Ross will participate in the IBC IP Showcase featuring the company’s RAPTOR-EDGE gateway, XPression, SRG-series timing generator, and the BACH audio over IP platform from its COVELOZ acquisition. As well, Nestor Amaya, founder of COVELOZ, a Ross Video company, and now Director of IP Solutions and Infrastructure Product Marketing for Ross Video, will be presenting a session in the IP Specific Interests track of the IP Showcase on Sunday September 17th at 2pm that talks to the control and management of IP infrastructure within a hybrid broadcast facility in accordance with the JT-NM roadmap.

Looking forward to 2018, Ross will continue to lead the industry in promoting and realizing vendor neutral network control that supports robust and deterministic routing with the One Network philosophy, offering customers unprecedented freedom of choice in their network, endpoint, and control system selection process. Part of this effort will include continued active participation inseveral acclaimed IP standards bodies including SMPTE, AIMS, AMWA, IEEE, and VSF, as well as supporting NewTek’s NDI®. As the underlying infrastructure migrates to data center technology, Ross is there to future proof today’s investments with IP-connected products, realize interoperable COTS solutions, and build out full Software Defined Production.
