Regis Said To Be Getting Fox Sports Gig

The 81-year-old Regis Philbin is close to signing a deal with Fox Sports to host a sports talk show, according to sources.

When Regis Philbin said he wasn’t retiring after he left Disney-ABC’s Live with Regis and Kelly in November 2011, he wasn’t kidding. The 81-year-old Philbin is close to inking a deal with Fox Sports to host a sports talk show, according to sources.

Fox Sports declined comment. Philbin rep Ken DiCamillo said only that the parties were talking.

Philbin, a New York native, Notre Dame alumnus and fan and, inexplicably, a Pittsburgh Pirates booster, already has a regular talk show gig. Since September, he has been co-hosting Rachael Ray’s CBS Television Distribution daytime show once a month. He also has filled in for CNN’s Piers Morgan.

According to Sports Business Daily, Philbin’s new show will likely be a panel talk show on the planned Fox Sports 1 network similar in style to ABC’s The View.
