Rob Elgas To Anchor WLS News AT 4 P.M.

ABC O&O WLS Chicago (DMA 3) has promoted Rob Elgas to anchor of its Eyewitness News at 4:00 PM alongside co-anchor Linda Yu, meteorologist Cheryl Scott and sports anchor Jim Rose.  Rob’s duties will also include contributing regular reports to the station’s 10 p.m. newscast.

Elgas will begin co-anchoring the 4 o’clock newscast on Thursday, May 26, the same day Alan Krashesky will take the reins of the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts after Ron Magers’ May 25 retirement.

Elgas joined WLS as a reporter and fill-in anchor in July 2015, joining from WMAQ Chicago where he anchored the early afternoon news and reported for the late evening news.

Prior to his return to Chicago in 2002, Elgas worked for KVIA El Paso, Texas. Hired in 1998, he was a weekend anchor before co-anchoring the morning show from 2000 to 2002.

Elgas started his broadcasting career behind the lens in Champaign-Urbana, working as a photographer for WICD.

Elgas attended the University of Illinois, studying agricultural communications and journalism, before landing his first job in television.
