Sinclair Signs Attkisson For Sunday AM News

The former CBS correspondent will host a half-hour Sunday news program on the group's network affiliates that will be a blend of investigative and political journalism, with a focus on accountability.

Emmy award-winning investigative journalist, Sharyl Attkisson, has joined Sinclair Broadcast Group to host a new, national Sunday morning news program that will air on Sinclair’s ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates nationwide. Attkisson has worked for Sinclair as a freelancer since last year.

The 30-minute program, which will be based in Washington, will be a blend of investigative and political journalism, with a focus on accountability, Sinclair says.

Attkisson will join Sinclair in June and the show is expected to launch in the fall.

“We are excited to have Sharyl on board as we launch this group-wide news program,” said Scott Livingston, VP of news for Sinclair Television Group, in a press release. “Our goal is to provide the context and perspective on major issues impacting our viewers. Sharyl has a proven track record of exposing the truth behind stories that other news organizations shy away from. I admire Sharyl’s determination and passion to seek the truth.  Her unwavering commitment to exposing government waste, abuse and impropriety will be the foundation of our news program.”

“Americans are thirsty for reporting that holds powers-that-be accountable, whether they are politicians, corporations or other special interests,” said Attkisson in a statement. “I am excited about the opportunity to report on untouchable subjects in a way that can reach even more viewers than my stories touched in the past.”

Attkisson is a recipient of five Emmy Awards, seven Emmy nominations and an Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative journalism.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Attkisson recently authored the New York Times bestseller, Stonewalled, which addresses the unseen influences of corporations and special interests on the information and images the public receives every day.

Prior to joining Sinclair, Attkisson spent 30 years as a correspondent and anchor for CBS News, CNN and various television stations. She left CBS in 2014, a year after she made public claims that her computers had been hacked while she worked on stories on the Obama administration.

Attkisson graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in broadcast journalism.

This is SNN … More real news is needed. I am sick of Marijuana specials on CNN. That is not news.

Is the guy who put NBC prime in fourth place still running CNN? That could explain a lot about the attempts to be reality TV.

CEOBOY711; she’s a right wing nut because she didn’t drink the Obama Kool-Aide like the rest of Washington’s media corps. You lefties really hate it when someone goes off the plantation and doesn’t spew the company line.

You’re one to comment on Kool-Aid; I can still see the stain from the Fox News variety that you’ve been guzzling.
