Telemundo Stations Slot Special FIFA Coverage

The Telemundo Station Group will send a team of six journalists to Russia to deliver special coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 which begins on Saturday, June 17, and concludes Sunday, July 2.

The team will include sports anchors Veronica Contreras from Telemundo’s WNJU New York and Jaime Becerril from WWSI Philadelphia. Both will deliver original content for local audiences across all platforms, including on-air, online and via the stations’ mobile apps. 

The two anchors will host Minutos Rusia, a feature story segment that will air during the stations’ local newscasts and give local audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the tournament as well as cultural context about the tournament’s host country, Russia.

As the official Spanish-language home of the FIFA World Cup in the U.S. through 2026, all matches will air live on Telemundo, including local Telemundo stations and on Universo network. Live coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 begins on Saturday, June 17 at 9 a.m. ET.

Local audiences can access Telemundo Station Group’s special Confederations Cup content within the “Deportes” sections of the owned stations’ websites and mobile apps. The digital reports will highlight teams, players and match venues.

Digital users will also be able to access interactive widgets that will allow audiences to follow every detail of the latest match statistics including faults, number of shots-to-goal, a real-time heat map of the players, side-by-side comparisons of each team’s moves, historical data of teams and players, and more. The stations’ dedicated apps and websites will also offer a livestream of each game, delivered by Telemundo Deportes.
