TVNewsCheck to Honor Disney’s Thomas

Renu Thomas, Disney/ABC Networks Group SVP of technology and operations, is the recipient of TVNewsCheck’s fourth annual Women in Technology Leadership Award, which will be presented during the NAB Show in April.

Renu Thomas, senior vice president, technology and operations, Disney/ABC Networks Group, has been selected to receive TVNewsCheck’s fourth annual Women in Technology Leadership Award.

The award will be presented during the NAB Show on April 8 at 6 p.m. in Room N-115 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Thomas is responsible for the technical and operational strategic direction and ongoing management of all of Disney’s U.S. television functions, including the Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, ABC Family, Disney ABC Domestic Television (syndication) and Radio Disney.

She also provides support and collaborates with teams in Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Canada on operational and technical activities involving production, channel origination, satellite asset management, foreign language dubbing, duplication and distribution, advanced technology, studio operations and technical affiliate relations.

Thomas joined The Walt Disney Co. in 2007 as VP of operations for ABC News, where she was responsible for setting the overall strategy; and, leading th operations for studios, control rooms, editing and graphics for all ABC News programs including Good Morning America, World News, Nightline, 20/20, This Week, as well as special events.

In making the announcement of the award, Kathy Haley, publisher and managing partner of TVNewsCheck parent NewsCheck Media, said: “In selecting an honoree each year, we look for an executive who is not just distinguished in engineering or operations, but also known as a leader in her field. Ms. Thomas’ achievements serve as a role model for those up and coming women who have focused their careers in media and entertainment industry technology.”

Thomas graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in operations research and industrial engineering.
