WALA Launching Weekend Morning News

Meredith-owned Fox affiliate WALA Mobile, Ala. (DMA 59), is introducing two new weekend newscasts.

The new newscasts will air Saturday and Sunday mornings from 6 to 8 a.m. They are scheduled to debut on Aug. 8. Candace Murphy and meteorologist Matt Barrentine will anchor the broadcasts.

Gary Yoder, WALA general manager, says that the additional newscasts are a natural extension of the station’s commitment to the community. “We are excited to launch these new newscasts. Not only will they keep viewers up to date every Saturday and Sunday morning, they will also meet an important need for our advertisers and partners. Fox10 News is committed to covering our community in any way that is relevant to our viewers. These new newscasts will help us meet that commitment.”

WALA News Director Scott Flannigan says that in addition to thorough coverage of any late-breaking news, viewers can also expect information that will help them plan for the weekend. “Our weather forecasts will be focused on how the weather could impact weekend plans. We’ll also report from community events that viewers may want to enjoy over the weekend.”

They’re going to cover news, and provide weekend weather about how the weather will impact the weekend. Innovative, cutting edge stuff. Free advice to managers: better to say nothing than spout insipid, obvious quotes.
