WCVB Adds Reporter Shaun Chaiyabhat

Hearst-owned ABC affiliate WCVB Boston (DMA 8) has hired Shaun Chaiyabhat as a general assignment reporter beginning Monday, Feb. 29. Chaiyabhat has been a reporter and fill-in anchor at WKMG Orlando, Fla., for the last five-and-a-half years.

Chaiyabhat’s on-air career started with an internship at WICS Springfield, Ill., covering politics and government at the state capitol. He stayed in Central Illinois to report for WCIA Champaign, home of his alma mater the University of Illinois.

He then worked for WREG Memphis covering corruption and crime, and telling stories about real people overcoming unthinkable acts and unbelievable odds. Before launching his career in journalism, one of Chaiyabhat’s first appearances on camera was in the movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray.

Chaiyabhat received a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  He also holds a master’s degree in public affairs reporting from University of Illinois at Springfield.
