WFLA Names William Berra VP Of News

He joins the Media General Tampa NBC affiliate from Journal Broadcast Group.

Media General-owned NBC affiliate WFLA Tampa, Fla. (DMA 14), today named William Berra vice president of news. He assumes his new position on March 17.

Since 2005, Berra has been VP, news, for Journal Broadcast Group in Milwaukee, where he was responsible for news brands and strategies for 10 TV stations.

From 2002 to 2005, he was news director of WFTS Tampa. From 1988 to 2002, he held news management positions at WSYX-WTTE Columbus, Ohio; WKMG Orlando, Fla.; KSAZ  Phoenix; KTVI St. Louis; and WREG Memphis.

He has won eight Emmy awards, led a team that won a duPont-Columbia Award for investigative journalism and numerous other awards for journalism excellence.

Berra is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Lots of luck. WFLA was the #1 station and then they dropped all the type stories that FormerGM and JDShaw continue to post are destroying TV News. Several years later, WFLA is at the bottom of the ratings. A great real life example for anyone thinking JD Shaw and FormerGM are correct.
