WGN Chicago To Air Illinois Derby Live

Tribune-owned CW affiliate WGN Chicago will provide live coverage of the 58th running of the Illinois Derby from Hawthorne Race Course on Saturday, April 18, from 5 to 6 p.m.

First run in 1923, the Illinois Derby is open to three-year-old Thoroughbred horses racing one and one-eighth miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt.

This Grade III race, offering a purse of $400,000, is an important Triple Crown prep race. This year’s race will be held at Hawthorne Race Course in Stickney, Ill.

The special will be hosted by WGN Sports’ Rich King, who will be joined by Hawthorne’s Jim Miller and Nancy Ury. WGN News’ Sarah Jindra will cover the fun and action from around the track. Expert analysis will be provided by Chicago Blackhawks announcer and long-time racing fan and owner Eddie Olczyk.
