WHO Anchor John Bachman Retiring
Local TV-owned NBC affiliate WHO Des Moines, Iowa (DMA 72), announced that 25-year veteran anchor John Bachman will retire at the end of November.
The station has promoted Iowa native, Iowa State journalism graduate and eight-year WHO anchor/reporter Dan Winters to succeed Bachman at the anchor desk.
Bachman’s 40-year broadcast journalism career includes interviews with five U.S.presidents, the Silver Circle from the National Television Academy and the Alfred I. duPont- Columbia University Silver Baton and several Emmy Awards for Best Newscast.
“John Bachman will forever be a part of the heritage and tradition of WHO”, says WHO President-GM Dale R. Woods. “Not only the consummate professional, but also a proficient journalist and a warm caring person. While we’re excited about the future, this is a time to remember and celebrate John’s accomplishments over four decades.”
Bachman’s retirement will signal the end of Iowa’s longest tenured anchor team with co-anchor Erin Kiernan, according to the station. WHO will celebrate Bachman’s accomplishments through the year with special “Bachman Moments” and some other surprises.
