WKBW Buffalo GM Bill Ransom To Retire

Granite Broadcasting Corp. today announced that broadcast veteran Bill Ransom will retire as president and general manager of its ABC affiliate WKBW Buffalo, N.Y. (DMA 52). Ransom has been with Granite since 1989, and will officially retire on June 30.

During Ransom’s tenure of nearly 25 years with Granite, he has led strategic and sales efforts across a number of the company’s markets. Prior to leading WKBW, Ransom was the general sales manager of Granite’s WPTA Fort Wayne, Ind., and president-GM of WTVH Syracuse, N.Y.

“For more than 40 years, Bill has shown to be a talented leader with strong business acumen, which is reflected across the markets he has touched,” said Duane Lammers, Granite’s chief operating officer. “Most importantly, Bill is a mentor and friend to so many at Granite and the local communities he has served.  He has been a positive voice for our company, the broadcasting profession and Buffalo, and will be truly missed.  We wish him all the best in the next chapter of his life.”

Bill Ransom commented, “I am truly grateful to have had the privilege of working with Granite’s talented and committed team members, and am honored to have led our Buffalo station, WKBW, for the last 18 years. Buffalo is a vibrant community and I am proud to have had the opportunity to be able to serve all of its citizens through our station.”

Ransom began his career in the media departments of several Philadelphia-based advertising firms. He then held an account executive position with Capital Cities Communications’ ABC affiliate in Philadelphia. Following that, he joined the ABC Network’s National Sales Division.

He has also served as a board member for various organizations including TVB’s sales advisory committee.
