WSAZ 10 P.M. News Moves To WQCW

Gray Television NBC affiliate WSAZ Charleston-Huntington, W.Va. (DMA 65) is moving the 10 p.m. newscast it airs on its MNT subchannel to Lockwood Broadcast Group’s CW affiliate WQCW beginning Monday, March 31.WSAZ programs WQCW under a local management agreement. WSAZ anticipates acquiring WQCW on April 1, 2014.

The newscast will also be expanding to one hour and will feature WSAZ anchors Bill Murray, Brittany Hoke and meteorologist Kelly Ann Cicalese, along with all of WSAZ’s reporters.

The station said the move was prompted by the fact that its myZ TV subchannel is unavailable on satellite. “Our 10 o’clock news has had great response,” says Matt Jaquint, WSAZ general manager. “Now, everyone will be able to see it. It’s a WSAZ newscast covering the entire region, and it’s available everywhere.”

“Many viewers want the option of watching a WSAZ evening newscast an hour earlier,” said News Director Dan Fabrizio. “Expanding to 60 minutes is also a plus. It allows us to go into even greater depth on the important stories of the night.”
