Rob Cartwright is moving from assistant news director at KDAF Dallas to lead Newport’s Syracuse ABC affiliate’s newsroom.

WSYR Adds Cartwright As News Director
Newport Television’s ABC affiliate WSYR Syracuse, N.Y. (DMA 84), has hired Rob Cartwright as news director of its broadcast and online operations, effective Jan. 4, 2012.
Cartwright comes to Syracuse from the Dallas-Fort Worth, where he was assistant news director at KDAF. A graduate of Texas State- San Marcos, Cartwright previously worked at WFAA Dallas and WJLA Washington.
Cartwright was a key member of newsrooms that won a regional Emmy Award and both regional and national Edward R. Murrow Awards.
He has also worked as a field producer on several stories of national interest, including the 2000 Florida Election Controversy, the Timothy McVeigh execution, the Virginia Tech shootings, and Republican and Democratic National Conventions in 2000 and 2004.
