Owner Dispatch Broadcast Group and the satellite carrier reach a multi-year deal.
WTHR, WBNS Return To Dish Network
Dispatch Broadcast Group and Dish Network have reached a multi-year agreement, restoring Dispatch’s WBNS Columbus, Ohio, and WTHR Indianapolis to the Dish Network channel lineup. They were removed from Dish Network when the previous agreement expired on June 15.
“I am happy that both sides were able to come to an agreement in the interest of our viewers,” said Larry Delia, president and general manager of WTHR. “WTHR Channel 13 has a long tradition of serving its customers with the best in news and entertainment, and we thank our Dish Network customers for their patience and understanding throughout this critical time.

Dish is the only satellite/cable provider that seems to be putting the retransmission screws to both media and customers. I gave up Dish a long time ago, and I’m afraid to ask what they’re charging customers now. This business is getting smaller every day.

I don’t think there is a media company out there that Dish has not threatened with blackouts if they don’t pay more. You’d think if they were making so much money, they’d be cheaper than Direct TV.

The broadcasters (and cable networks) aren’t paying Dish….Dish wants to pay LESS for the right to retransmit these channels. I think you’re misunderstanding what’s going on! Dish has to send money TO the various channels it carries, not vice versa. Dish’s goal is to pay LESS so they don’t have to charge more and more to their subscribers, as is the case with DirecTV and all the cable companies.

Regular Basic Programming is only roughly 20% of Dish’s cost. Perhaps they should look to cut back Charlie’s lawyer’s bill as well as his salary if they want to cut expenses.
