WWSI Philly Hiring 15 To Launch Local News

The NBC-owned Telemundo station in Philadelphia is seeking spanish-speaking journalists and other professionals as it staffs up for 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts beginning in January.

Leading up to an early January launch of its first local newscasts, NBC-owned Telemundo affiliate WWSI Philadelphia (DMA 4) today announced that it is recruiting 15 Spanish-speaking journalists and other professionals to fill the roles of reporter, producer, anchor and photographer as well as positions in sales, finance and engineering.

The new hires are needed to launch two new, high-definition Spanish-language newscasts on the station starting in January 2014. The live, half-hour newscasts will air weeknights at 6 and 11 p.m.

The station said the newscasts will benefit from new technology investments in WWSI, including a more powerful transmitter and stronger antenna, scheduled to be installed in November 2013.

“We’re looking for talented Spanish-speaking journalists who are passionate about delivering the Hispanic community the local news and information that is important and relevant in their lives,” said Eric Lerner, the station’s president-GM. “This is a unique opportunity to play a role in the launch of a first-time newscast working for a company that is dedicated to serving our communities with quality journalism.”

More information about the positions and the application process is available here.

NBCUniversal’s Telemundo Station Group acquired WWSI in July.
