WZDX Launches New Facility, Expands At 9

Nexstar Broadcasting kicks off the hour-long news as it completes its multi-million dollar buildout of a state-of-the-art broadcast/digital operations center and high-definition news facility In Huntsville, Ala.

Nexstar Broadcasting Group’s Fox affiliate WZDX Huntsville, Ala. (DMA 79), will launch a new locally-produced news programming broadcast live in full high definition from its remodeled state-of-the-art studios beginning 9 p.m. tonight, Monday, April 4.

WZDX has also expanded its primetime evening local newscast to a full hour, airing Monday through Sunday from 9 to 10 p.m. In association with the station’s enhanced and expanded news programming, Nexstar invested $3.3 million to renovate the WZDX broadcast facility on North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville, add nearly 20 news and production personnel, develop new on-air graphics and purchase new equipment and weather technology systems to complement the locally-originated newscasts.

Nexstar purchased WZDX on Dec. 1, 2014, and made a commitment to expand its local news programming, hire additional news personnel and fully upgrade all aspects of the stations’ technical infrastructure.

The upgraded studios include a locally-themed news set, state-of-the-art HD cameras and production capabilities, renovated offices and weather forecasting equipment featuring early warning technology and advanced alert systems. In addition, the expanded team of seasoned journalists will provide more local news content through additive and enhanced digital applications with both mobile and desktop accessibility on RocketCityNow.com.
