WPIX Expands Offerings Via Platforms

The Tribune New York station is now offering news, lifestyle and entertainment segments as video-on-demand content on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Google’s Android TV.

Effective today, Tribune Broadcasting’s CW affiliate WPIX New York (DMA 1), is making its content available via PIX11-branded applications on several platforms including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Google’s Android TV.

The station is offering news, lifestyle and entertainment segments as video-on-demand content. WPIX is also available on Amazon’s voice-activated Alexa service, via flash news briefing.

On the PIX11 application, users can find archive content, digital exclusives, expanded news segments and a wide-range of WPIX’s nostalgic holiday content, including Yule Log exclusives.

“PIX11 was one of the first local television stations to embrace new technologies as an early adopter of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Periscope,” said Greg Easterly, WPIX SVP/group operations. “Now the addition of PIX11 to services like Roku, Amazon and Google reflects Tribune Broadcasting’s commitment to distributing its content on the latest platforms. We believe it is vital to be where our audiences are consuming information.”

Platform users can search for PIX11 to access content on the device of their choice.

Tribune Broadcasting has also launched KSTU Salt Lake City and WGHP Greensboro, N.C., on the Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Google’s Android TV platforms.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

The remaining Tribune Broadcasting stations will roll out in early 2017.

Wow, Easterly makes it look like he’s actually done something in the last year. This Roku deal may expand PIX11’s viewership to 5 viewers

Let’s see… more viewers = more ad avails = more revenue… yep, you’re right @mrfixit, what a dumb move on Tribune’s part…

Haaaa, well Mr. Ridgeline TV why don’t you disclose that you also expand your viewing with roku. relly ? isn’t roku for millenials that don’t watch wpix? PIX11 should worry about getting views on Broadcast before it worries about anything else. if you haven’t heard – pix11 gets hashmarks for ratings .5 and less. and speaking of more ad avails – don’t think they’re going to get too much more revenue with Peter Ligouri at the helm – considering every segment on pix11 IS an ad… without sponsor ID, if you haven’t figured that out yet…

RIDGELINETV IN CAPS would die for a .1 rating.

Once a great independent, WPIX is known for “You are/aren’t the father” programming like “Maury” these days.

@mrfixit… I’ve already “disclosed” that I expand my viewership with Roku (like one needs to “disclose” something like that…) Not sure how that affects my comments… As for WPIX and its content, haven’t seen it, don’t know what they have on, don’t really care… but reaching as many viewers as possible should be a no-brainer…

@Insider: Ratings mean nothing to the mom and pop advertisers I serve. People seeing their ads and mentioning it to them does.
