Miguelangel Lopez Named WTMO News VP

He joins the Telemundo Orlando outlet from KTLM Harlingen, Texas, to oversee multiplatform news operations.

Telemundo-owned WTMO Orlando, Fla. has appointed Miguelangel Lopez vice president of news. In this role, Lopez will be responsible for overseeing the station’s multiplatform news operations and performance. He will report to Migdalia Figueroa, WTMO president and general manager. His first day at WTMO will be Jan. 25.

A 12-time regional Lone Star Emmy Award winner and a 20-year veteran news professional, Lopez joins WTMO from KTLM Harlingen, Texas, where he has been vice president of news since 2014. At KTLM, Lopez oversaw the launch of the station’s consumer investigative unit that has returned millions of dollars to consumers as well as the news team’s coverage of national breaking news.

During his tenure, KTLM’s news team has won journalism awards including a National News Emmy, Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and First Amendment Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, among others.

In addition to his local broadcast experience, Lopez has also worked for Telemundo Network in various producer roles with increasing responsibility for the network’s morning show, Un Nuevo Día.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Lopez launched his career in television more than 20 years ago as host for several Puerto Rican shows including Día a Dia.
