CBS Launches CBSN Pittsburgh

The debut is the newest expansion of major market local news streaming services from CBS and features local news content produced by KDKA and WPCW.

CBS Television Stations and CBS Interactive have debuted CBSN Pittsburgh, the eighth of ViacomCBS’s 13 local direct-to-consumer streaming news services in major markets across the country. CBSN Pittsburgh features anchored programming, coverage of live breaking news events in the region, as well as an extensive library of local news content that will be available for on-demand viewing.

CBS (now ViacomCBS) became the first major media company to launch a local OTT news service when CBSN New York debuted in December 2018. Since then, the company has launched CBSN Los Angeles (June 2019), CBSN Boston (September 2019), CBSN San Francisco Bay Area (November 2019), CBSN Minnesota (December 2019), CBSN Philly (January 2020) and CBSN Denver (February 2020).

Following today’s launch of CBSN Pittsburgh, CBSN Chicago is expected to make its debut later this month. Shortly thereafter, ViacomCBS will launch CBSN Local services in the four remaining markets where the company has a local television news organization: Dallas-Ft. Worth, Miami, Sacramento and Baltimore.

CBSN Pittsburgh’s lineup includes live streams of KDKA (CBS) and WPCW (CW) regularly scheduled newscasts, Pittsburgh Today Live and coverage of breaking news.

“KDKA is one of the finest local stations in the country and one of the crown jewels of our group,” said Peter Dunn, president, CBS Television Stations. “We are excited to broaden the reach of the station’s award-winning news coverage by launching CBSN Pittsburgh — a service that makes our premium local news content available to consumers whenever and wherever they want to watch. Our first seven CBSN Local services are exceeding our expectations. We look forward to seeing this trend continue in Pittsburgh as well as the other major markets where we will soon be launching.”

“This is a landmark day for everyone at KDKA and The CW Pittsburgh, as we launch this exciting new platform that provides viewers here in Western Pennsylvania and across the country with the high-quality journalism that has defined us for decades,” said Chris Cotugno, VP-GM, KDKA-WPCW. “We look forward to having CBSN Pittsburgh add to our legacy as a local news leader.
