DMA 38: GREENVILLE, SC

Chris Justus Named WYFF Chief Meteorologist

The Hearst NBC affiliate in Greenville, S.C., promotes him to succeed the retiring John Cessarich in November.

Hearst-owned NBC affiliate WYFF Greenville, S.C. (DMA 38), has appointed Chris Justus chief meteorologist.

The news follows long-time Chief Meteorologist John Cessarich’s announcement that he plans to retire. Justus will assume the leadership role after Cessarich’s departure in late November.

Justus joined WYFF in 2013 as a meteorologist on the weekend 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. He has covered major snowstorms and multiple tornado outbreaks during the last six years alongside Cessarich and the rest of the WYFF News 4 weather team. Justus has been an integral part of the team during major hurricane coverage, including Hurricanes Matthew in 2016, Irma in 2017 and Florence in 2018. Cessarich and Justus also worked together to cover the historic flooding in South Carolina in 2015.

“I couldn’t have handpicked a better successor for Chief Meteorologist than Chris Justus,” Cessarich remarked. “He’s a scientist and weather expert who can handle the challenge of forecasting weather in this market. He speaks to all generations, giving accurate weather coverage on TV and on social media. He will seamlessly take the reins and continue giving our viewers critical storm information.”

“I grew up watching John on WYFF News 4.” Justus said. “Tag teaming weather with my mentor and a legend in this market has been a dream come true. I am eternally blessed and grateful for the opportunity to become the next Chief Meteorologist at WYFF 4 and will continue the tradition of excellence.”

Justus earned his degree in meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
