Scripps Ups Matt Borek To Florida 24 Network Managing Director

The former digital director of WFTS Tampa will oversee the Scripps-Cox network that offers local news from eight markets in the state.

Matt Borek has been promoted to managing director, brand, revenue and content of Scripps’ Florida 24 Network (FL24), effective Monday, Jan. 30.

FL24 is a 24/7 statewide news network established in 2021. According to Scripps, “FL24 provides real-time depth, context and clarity to the biggest stories impacting Florida residents, including live coverage of breaking news, weather and political events.”

Borek has been with Scripps for 10 years, most recently as director of digital at its WFTS Tampa.

“Matt has played a key role in building FL24 since it launched,” said Joe Naylor, vice president of emerging products for Scripps. “His experience building the product, combined with his deep understanding of the things that matter most to Florida communities, is a great win for FL24 audiences and partners.”

FL24 currently highlights reporting from journalists at Scripps’ six Florida stations in Miami, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Tallahassee and Fort Myers, and recently formed a strategic partnership with Cox Media Group to provide content from Jacksonville and Orlando. With the addition of CMG content from these two markets — expected to launch in the coming weeks — FL24 will integrate coverage from the eight primary markets across the state of Florida.

Borek said: “Florida is such a unique and beautiful state with hundreds of new people moving here daily. Whether you just moved here or lived here for years, Florida 24 Network covers the biggest stories impacting all of Florida. I’m excited for the opportunity to continue my career with Scripps. In addition, I’m honored to lead and innovate a product designed for today’s world that is also built on our foundation of strong journalism.”
