SmithGeiger’s Finlayson To Open NewsTECHForum

Andrew Finlayson, EVP digital and social media strategies at SmithGeiger, will look at how broadcasters can attract younger audiences with technology, opening a conference gathering news, technology and digital executives.

Andrew Finlayson, EVP of digital and social media strategies at SmithGeiger, will kick off TVNewsCheck’s NewsTECHForum 2018 with a presentation examining how broadcasters can use their brand strength to draw younger viewers in an age where video is more important than ever.

Finlayson works with leading media companies on their digital strategies on social media, news apps, streaming video/OTT and mobile content.

“Andrew’s insights draw on research into industry professionals and audiences, and the upshot of that research is the primacy of video for younger audiences,” said Michael Depp, TVNewsCheck’s special projects editor. “He’ll be sharing the highlights of that research with us, emphasizing the importance of mobile and streaming video and where the audience is headed next.”

Before joining SmithGeiger, Finlayson was a John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University and director of online content business development for Fox Owned Stations.

Finlayson also served as VP and news director for Fox’s WFLD Chicago and news director of KTVU Oakland, Calif. He has won numerous regional Emmys and Edward R. Murrow Awards, and he is the author of Questions That Work.

NewsTECHForum, now in its sixth year, will also feature sessions on OTT and the News: Technology, Content and Monetization; Optimizing Production in the Field; Technology and the Next Generation of News Storytelling; Live News Production Over IP; and Top Technologists on AI, AR, IP, News Personalization and Future Workflows. Christy Tanner, EVP and GM of CBS News Digital, will be one of the conference’s keynote interviews.
