WAPT Jackson Names Cheryl Stroy Assistant News Director

Hearst Television’s ABC affiliate WAPT Jackson, Miss., has appointed Cheryl Stroy its new assistant news director. Stroy brings over two decades of experience in local news, which, the station says, “will play a crucial role in shaping the station’s editorial direction and furthering its commitment to delivering accurate, timely, and engaging news content to the community.”

Stroy joins WAPT from Hearst’s WVTM Birmingham, Ala., where she was an executive producer for morel than three years. Prior to her time in Birmingham, Stroy held key positions in various markets, including Greenville, N.C., and Baton Rouge, La.

“Cheryl’s passion for news is contagious, and her track record of success speaks for itself,” says Lee Neely, WAPT news director. “I have no doubt that she will make a significant impact on our team, and her expertise will elevate our news coverage to new heights. A Louisiana native, Story is an alumna of Southern University and Agriculture and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and Master of Arts in mass communication.
