WMAQ Chicago & LX News Highlight Murders Of Transgender People On ‘The Deadliest Year’

NBC O&O WMAQ Chicago will broadcast a new special The Deadliest Year on Saturday, June 3, at 6 p.m. An investigation led by NBC Chicago reporter, Regina Waldrop, and LX visual storyteller, Jalyn Henderson, examine the increasing number of transgender people murdered in Chicago.

According to the station, “Every year becomes the deadliest year for transgender people, especially transgender women, in Chicago. These murders often go overlooked and unsolved, leaving the greater community scared and in search of justice. Regina and Jalyn sit down with friends and families of the victims to highlight their struggles and their search for answers.”

“This is a story about families that are increasingly losing their children to murder for choosing to live life as their authentic selves,” says Matt Knutson, WMAQ vice president of multiplatform content.

Following Saturday’s premiere on WMAQ, The Deadliest Year will also be available for viewing on NBCChicago.com or the NBC Chicago app.
