WWL Ups Nicole Waivers To News Director

Tegna’s New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL today promoted Nicole Waivers to news director, effective May 15.

A graduate of Loyola University’s communications department, Nicole has been WWL’s nightside executive producer since January 2022. During that time, the station said, she has played an integral role in the continued transformation of WWL’s late news.

“Louisiana is my home. The food, music, and culture run through my veins. I watched WWL-TV as a child. I can think of no greater honor than to lead this newsroom,” Nicole said.

Before returning home, Nicole served as executive producer at WFAA Dallas, where she led the dayside producing and assignment desk teams — overseeing the daily editorial process, as well as working with the research and marketing teams to implement daily and long-term strategies for newscasts.

“Nicole is a leader who brings a passion for the people of Southeast Louisiana,” said WWL President/General Manager Tod Smith. “Her ties to the local area run deep. That, combined with her extensive cross-platform and multi-market experience makes her the perfect choice to lead our newsroom into the future.”
