Executives from Fox Corp., Hearst Television, CBC, Sony Electronics and Florical Systems will discuss the investment drivers for replacing on-prem hardware, how the cloud and the 2110 standard work together and the benefits of 2110 for both UHD and OTT production, among other issues.

Paul Capizzi

Paul Capizzi, CIO and SVP of technology, Fox Corp. — He leads the enterprise technology teams for Fox News & Fox Television. This includes responsibility for all 29 owned-and-operated Fox Television stations.

On a daily basis, Capizzi integrates broadcast engineering to help modernize Fox technology and is responsible for networking, datacenter, cloud, telephony and tech support.

Stefan Hadl, SVP, Broadcast Engineering & Technology, Hearst — He was named vice president of engineering for Hearst Television in 2019 after serving as the company’s director of engineering, eastern region, since 2017.

Hadl joined Hearst Television in 1995 as a broadcast engineer at KCRA, later to become part of the company’s Sacramento, California, duopoly, KCRA-KQCA. After subsequently serving as director of engineering at Hearst Television’s WMUR Manchester, N.H., he returned to KCRA-KQCA as director of engineering. In 2015, Hadl became director of engineering and operations of Hearst Television’s WCVB Boston.

Hadl began his career in broadcast engineering while in the United States Air Force, earning his discharge as a television equipment specialist noncommissioned officer in charge at Los Angeles Air Force Base. He holds an associate degree in electronic systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force. He is a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Francois Legrand

Francois Legrand, Senior Director, Capital Project Management, Governance and Engineering, Core Systems, CBC — After working as an intern, he has been with CBC/Radio-Canada since 2004. He joined as a broadcast systems designer and has since then been involved in a wide range of projects and held several positions. In his current post he manages the team responsible for all capital projects related to CBC/Radio-Canada’s core infrastructure, including the implementation of the new media over IP infrastructure.

In is free time, Legrand is an avid maker and is interested in anything related to 3D printing, CNC woodworking and DIY electronics. He is frequently invited to present the initiatives and the technological vision of CBC/Radio-Canada for local and international audiences.

Deon LeCointe

Deon LeCointe, Director of Networked Solutions, Sony Electronics’ Imaging Products & Solutions, Americas — He oversees Sony’s live production product portfolio and works with television networks and broadcasters to design and build equipment that delivers live content to millions of homes around the world. His team is composed of product managers, solution architects, sales engineers and service personnel that are responsible for the development, sales and marketing of products designed for news, sports and entertainment.

LeCointe has spent years on the front lines working to drive the adoption of media over IP technologies for broadcast and production and has contributed to numerous whitepapers on the benefits of IP technology live production and contribution. He has led the implementation of IP-based infrastructure, cameras, and switchers at notable installations including CNN Hudson Yards in New York and NFL Network in Los Angeles.

LeCointe graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s in electrical engineering and a Master’s in electrical and computer engineering and was tapped as a member of Iron Arrow, the highest attainable honor. He is also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), co-founder of Sony Electronics’ Black Employee Network and a NYC TV Week 40 Under 40 honoree.

Shawn Maynard

Shawn Maynard, Senior VP & General Manager, Florical Systems — He joined Florical Systems in 2006 as senior vice president and general manager, bringing decades of leadership experience to the Florical team.

Before Florical, he served as the director of operations for NBC Universal from 2001 to 2006, overseeing the Southeast Hub in South Florida. Maynard brought his operational experience to Florical by designing Smart Central and several award-winning products including Acuitas. He attended Marshall University where he majored in psychology. Since joining Florical, his leadership and vision resulted in revenue growth, market share increase as well as the expansion of Florical’s product offerings.

Maynard serves on the Americas Council for IABM and also Section Chair for the SMPTE Florida Chapter.
