What’s Up: The big news at Capitol Broadcasting came at the beginning of the year when its WRAL Raleigh, N.C., and CBS failed to reach an extension of the station’s 30-year affiliation with the network. Beginning Feb. 29, WRAL became the market’s NBC affil, while WNCN picked up the CBS lineup.
In the new media space, Capitol signed a deal last December that added Newsy content to three of its digital properties: WRAL.com, WRALSportsFan.com and HighSchoolIOT.com. And in April, WRAL launched an Amazon Fire TV app powered by Calkins Digital that includes live broadcasts, local news on demand and special documentaries.
