Heroes & Icons Diginet To Add ‘Hercules’ And ‘Xena’

Weigel Broadcasting’s Heroes & Icons multicast network will present a pair of TV heroes with the network premiere of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, beginning on Monday, Feb. 8.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys will air weeknights at 6 p.m. ET and Saturdays at 3 p.m. Xena: Warrior Princess will follow weeknights at 7 ET and Saturdays at 4 p.m. ET.

“This is the story of a time long ago- a time of myth and legend,” and thus the story of Hercules begins. Starring Kevin Sorbo as Hercules, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys debuted as a first-run TV series in January of 1995, following the success of five earlier TV movies.

The immediate popularity of Hercules led to the creation and spin-off of Xena: Warrior Princess, starring Lucy Lawless as Xena, later that year in September of 1995. Together, Hercules and Xena were two of the most popular first-run syndication hours, with Xena airing in 108 countries.

They inspired numerous imitators and other ancient-set adventure TV series, as well as comics, books, video games, and even conventions. In late 2015, development of a new Xena: Warrior Princess series was announced.

“Hercules and Xena further enhance the H&I brand by bringing two heroic fantasy series to the Network,” said Neal Sabin, vice chairman of Weigel Broadcasting. “With the addition of these two series, as well as all five original Star Trek franchises this fall, H&I becomes the new definitive TV destination for sci-fi, fantasy and adventure programming.”
