KCRA Sacramento To Expand Weekend News

Hearst-owned NBC affiliate KCRA Sacramento, Calif. (DMA 20) is enlarging two weekend newscasts.

Starting Saturday, Oct. 28, KCRA 3 News at 6 p.m. will expand to a full hour.  Then, on Sunday, Oct. 29, KCRA 3 News at 11 p.m. also adds an additional 30 minutes, providing a full hour of local news, weather and sports.

“More and more people are looking for a trusted news source,” said Elliott Troshinsky, KCRA-KQCA President-GM. “We are proud that with our weekend expansions, we can provide more news and information from Sacramento’s most trusted news team.”

“We know that local news is very important to our viewers and more people are watching news on the weekends,” said Lori Waldon, KCRA news director. “We’ve responded by devoting even more time to local news, weather and sports. With our expanded newscasts we’ll be able to give our viewers a more comprehensive look at what happened over the weekend.”

Walter Makaula and Kathy Park will anchor the expanded newscasts and meteorologist Dirk Verdoorn will provide weather information.

You’re kidding, right?
There’s that much news in Sacramento, California at 6 PM on a Saturday night… and then I’m going to stay awake for news until midnight on a SUNDAY night?
There’s only one thing fueling this move… to have more news on the air than the other 3 stations.
Makes for a great promo.
Sounds like every boring feature that comes down the NBC feeds from LA, San Fran and the Valley will fill those extra half-hours.
