NewsON Expands With 3 Meredith Stations

With the inclusion of Meredith’s KPHO and KTVK in Phoenix and KMOV in St. Louis, the national service providing local news via app has grown to 141 stations in 99 markets covering 48 of the top 50 markets and 80% of the U.S. population. Meredith says more of its stations could come on board in the coming months.

NewsON, the broadcaster-operated service that provides local news nationwide, today announced the addition of three stations owned by Meredith Corp.

Meredith’s Local Media Group includes 17 owned or operated television stations, reaching 11% of U.S. households. Three Meredith stations will be added to the NewsON roster — KPHO and KTVK in Phoenix and KMOV in St. Louis — with potential for additional stations in the coming months. Meredith uses multiple distribution platforms including broadcast television, print, digital, mobile, tablets and video to provide consumers with content they desire and to deliver the messages of its advertising and marketing partners.

“The addition of Meredith comes at an exciting time for us as we continue to grow our local station reach,” said Louis Gump, CEO of NewsON. “These three stations serve very large populations in Phoenix and St. Louis which makes a major positive impact as we continue to move towards NewsON’s vision of providing relevant local TV news to anyone, anywhere, anytime.”

With the immediate addition of Phoenix and St. Louis, NewsON now features video content from 141 stations in 99 markets covering 48 of the top 50 markets and 80% of the U.S. population.

“NewsON brings added value to Meredith’s local TV stations,” said Matt Strait, VP of Digital for Meredith. “We’re excited to kick off our partnership by offering our viewers in Phoenix and St. Louis even more ways to access our local news content as well as content from stations around the country.”

NewsON provides consumers with access to live and on-demand local newscasts as well as local news clips on mobile and connected TV devices. The free, ad-supported app features flexible navigation that encourages discovery, offering instant access to broadcast-quality video. It also enables users to search by market via an interactive map and for curated content linking coverage of breaking news events from multiple stations.
