Philadelphia Evening, Late News Viewing -5%
WPVI has dominated local news viewing in Philadelphia for almost four decades. That did not change in the latest May book.
The ABC O&O was No. 1 in news at 5, 6 and 11 p.m., despite losing audience in all three slots, according to a TVNewsCheck analysis of the Nielsen’s May-over-May count of weekday viewers aged 25 to 54 of evening and late news in the top 10 markets.
Overall, the market viewership of evening and late news slumped 5% from May 2013. It was one of six top 10 markets to lose audience during the month and it contributed to an overall 7% drop in the 10 DMAs.
Growing 25%, Fox’s WTXF finished second at 5 p.m., while NBC was third at 5 and second at 6 and 11. CBS’s KYW was fourth at 5 and 6 and third in the three-station race at 11.
WTXF maintained a strong lead at 10, despite its losing 26% of its audience and Tribune’s WPHL gaining 9%.
Spanish-language news is not a big factor in the market, but Univision’s WUVP topped Telemundo’s WWSI at 6 and 11 by wide margins.
