WJCL Unveils New Brand ‘Working For You’

The new brand includes a new slogan and a fresh news set design that relies on the rich history of Savannah, Ga. "Our focus in developing the new brand was to leverage our multiple platform approach to content delivery with a design that would make our viewers feel connected to our newscasts," says Les Vann, president and GM of the LIN Media-owned station.

WJCL Savannah, Ga., launched its new brand slogan this week, WJCL News — Working For You, in addition to a redesigned set and on-air graphics.

Les Vann, president and GM of WJCL, said the branding is more than just a slogan.

“Our focus in developing the new brand was to leverage our multiple platform approach to content delivery with a design that would make our viewers feel connected to our newscasts. We identified the Savannah brick pretty early on as the soul of our historic city and oddly enough it was our commitment to the rich past that informed how we wanted to operate in the future,” Vann said in a statement.

The redesign was an eight month process and includes new lighting and on-air animated graphics.

“The approach to the process was holistic as every element had to support and be consistent with each other and with the overall brand,” Kathy Mosher-Boule, VP of on-air image and design at LIN Media, said in a statement. “We worked with award winning designers and station management that featured bright and dynamic elements that artfully complements the overall look of the set and on-air team.”

“Working for you” and “On your side” are not “brands”. They are cynical, meaningless, drivel.
Rule of thumb: The more a station uses these silly catch phrases – the more it produces news on the cheap – prioritizing crime, mayhem, car wrecks, and endless weather hype.

So they go for ratings, just what they should do, instead of self-serving crusades!

Clearly he has no want or desire to produce a successful product (defined by one that people want to watch and advertisers pay top dollar for).

They need all the help they can get. I wish them luck though; some of my peeps still work there!

In the days of analog, they had great coverage, almost making it to Augusta, GA in summers and fall…
