WJXT Expands ‘The Morning Show’
Washington Post Co.-owned independent WJXT Jacksonville, Fla. (DMA 48), announced today that it is expanding its The Morning Show beginning Monday, Oct. 28.
The broadcast will now be seen every weekday from 4:30 to 10 a.m. The additional newscast from 9 to 10 a.m. will be anchored by Nikki Kimbleton and Tarik Minor. In addition, Meteorologist Richard Nunn will track storms and keep viewers informed of any new developments in the forecast.
Because of the expansion, The Dr. Oz Show will move to 10 a.m., and Judge Alex will move to 11 and 11:30 a.m.

WJXT is becoming more of a news station than ever, and I like that. However, almost every breath and nuance is scripted out, so the newscasters come across as phony, for the most part.

I rather see WJXT grabbing the ABC affiliation from Gannett duopoly with one of their stations gaining the MYNET affiliation.

Why? The syndicated programming they run in prime is actually beating a ton of ABC and NBC’s prime lineup. Why pay the fees to ABC?

Post Newsweek would be happy to continue to pay ABC fees for WPLG and KSAT along with adding WJXT to the mix and they do pay fees for KPRC to keep the NBC affiliation going.

WJXT is overflowing with cash, is #1 overall in the market, #1 in news, and as an independent, can have newscasts whenever they like. Les Moonves said they would fail if they cut CBS many years ago. LOL

When WJXT left CBS and went Independent, I cringed for 2 reasons: 1) Independents usually are lousy compared to network O&Os or Affiliates, and 2), I was scared that WaPo owned WKMG here in Orlando would do the same thing. Years later, WKMG is still with CBS, and WPLG is still with ABC, and our Independent, WRDQ, is getting better shows to broadcast than they had in prior years, so TV is good here.
