WNBC GM Michael Jack Sets Retirement Date

After 40 years in television, the head of NBC's New York flagship O&O will step down next June. Prior to taking over at WNBC in 2010, Jack ran two other NBC stations, WRC Washington and WCHM Columbus, Ohio.

Michael Jack, GM of NBC’s flagship WNBC New York, said today that he would be retiring next June, ending a 40-year run in broadcasting, the last 20 with NBC.

“Michael has been a dynamic leader, who has run three NBC Owned Television Stations over the course of his career,” said Valari Staab, NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. “He has been a trusted confidante and friend to me, a committed broadcaster and a mentor for so many in our division.”

Jack said it was his ambition to be a station GM and that it was a privilege to do it in three markets.

“I am thankful to so many wonderful people who have inspired and supported me along the way, and am especially grateful to Valari Staab, Ted Harbert [chairman, NBC Broadcasting] and NBCUniversal leadership for their commitment and investment in making NBC 4 the best in the business.”

Prior to taking over at WNBC in 2010, Jack ran two other NBC stations, WRC Washington and WCHM Columbus, Ohio. WCHM was subsequently sold to Media General in 2006.

Jack got his start with NBC as VP of sales for KNBC Los Angeles.

One can only wonder of his decision to run Obama’s Speech in Prime Time Sweeps last month instead of Network Programming played any part of in this “retirement”?
