WSBK Shifting 10 P.M. News To 8 P.M.

CBS-owned MNT affiliate WSBK Boston (DMA 8) is moving its 10 p.m. newscast to 8 p.m., starting Monday, Aug. 29. Paula Ebben and Liam Martin will co-anchor the nightly, hour-long newscast.

Mark Lund, president-GM of WSBK and co-owned WBZ-TV, said: “WBZ-TV is a 24/7 news operation. We are committed to using all of our broadcast and digital platforms to serve the community whenever and wherever it is most convenient for our audience. The 8 p.m. hour is currently underserved, and with one of the most popular shows in the market (syndicated episodes of The Big Bang Theory), as its lead-in, we expect the move of myTV38’s nightly newscast to 8 p.m. will be well received.”

“We are always looking at ways to improve on how we deliver news.” said Johnny Green, WBZ-WSBK news director. “No one in the market has an 8 p.m. newscast and in today’s nonstop news environment, we feel this is an ideal time slot for our market’s viewers. With the shift in time, we will also kickoff the newscast with 20 minutes of continuous news coverage, which will allow us to deliver more news and information to our viewers without interruption.”

In other words, no one is watching WSBK at 10pm.

“No one in the market has an 8pm newscast.” Because almost nobody wants one. Gotta love those 0.8 demos.

Reality now that Ansin has finally conceded he loses NBC in January and will fill the void with news at 9 and 10.

They’ve tried 7:00, 9:00, 9:30, and 10:00, now 8:00! (Despite my snark, I do look forward to watching on the grandfathered DISH “superstation” at 7:00 Central time.)
