WVEC Norfolk Ups Doug Wieder to Exec. ND

The Norfolk, Va., Belo ABC affiliate  promotes from interim news director.

Belo-owned ABC affiliate WVEC Norfolk, Va. (DMA 44), today named Doug Wieder executive news director, effective immediately.  Wieder has been interim news director at WVEC since October, when Rich Lebenson left that post, and prior to that Wieder was executive producer at the station since 2007.

“Doug had the ultimate ‘on-the-job’ interview, and passed with flying colors,” said Brad Ramsey, president-GM of WVEC and wvec.com. “We have seen tremendous momentum under Doug’s leadership, thanks to his deep commitment to growing our people and improving our content every single day.  Together we are incredibly excited about the future of 13News.”

A former award-winning investigative reporter, Wieder is a board member of the Virginia Associated Press. Prior to joining WVEC, Wieder was a senior producer at WRIC Richmond, Va., and earlier in his career spent time as an anchor and reporter at WDEF Chattanooga, Tenn., and WGXA Macon, Ga.

“I am deeply honored to be chosen to lead the newsroom at WVEC-TV,” Wieder said.
