John Hesslein Upped To WGGB VP-GM
Meredith Corp. today promoted John Hesslein to vice president and general manager of CBS, ABC and Fox affiliate WGGB Springfield, Mass. (DMA 116), effective immediately. He will report to Patrick McCreery, Meredith Local Media Group executive vice president.
Hesslein succeeds Klarn DePalma, who Meredith recently promoted to EVP of MNI Targeted Media in Stamford, Conn., Meredith’s targeted digital and print advertising business.
Hesslein has worked for WSHM Meredith for more than 13 years. He has served as the station manager and general sales manager since 2004.
“John has overseen many exciting enhancements at our Springfield stations, including the launch and growth of our Western Mass News team,” said McCreery. “I look forward to John’s continued success in his new leadership role.”
In 2015, Hesslein led the combination of the newsgathering operations of CBS 3, ABC 40 and Fox 6. The three stations rebranded as Western Mass News: Coverage You Can Count On, and pledged to provide more local news on air and online.
Prior to working at Meredith, Hesslein served as VP-GM of Metro Networks, which provided local traffic, news, weather and sports information to television and radio stations.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Curry College in Milton, Mass.
