WMAQ CHICAGO GOES ALL HD FOR NEWS

With the completion of studio and news updating, the NBC O&O is broadcasting all its local news and programming in 1080i.

NBC O&O WMAQ Chicago is now broadcasting all live local newscasts and programming in high definition.

In a build out and transition process that has taken months, the station has converted both its Studio 5 on Michigan Avenue and the NBC Tower news operation to HD.

WMAQ’s HD format is 1080i which is refreshed at 30 frames per second, which means more pixels for greater clarity and sharpness.

In addition to local newscasts, the locally produced live Chicago Auto Show special will be broadcast in HD on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.

Viewers can watch WMAQ’s HD broadcasts over the air with an antenna on ch. 5.1; on cable through Comcast (ch. 188) and Wide Open West (ch. 203); and on satellite through DirectTV (ch. 962) and Dish Network (ch. 6314).
