Jim Gabbert, Walter Liss, Lowry Mays, the Taishoff family, Cecil Walker and Bud Walters will be honored by the Broadcasters Foundation of America during the NAB Show.
The Broadcasters Foundation of America today announced the recipients of the Ward L. Quaal Pioneer Awards to be presented during the NAB Show on April 22 at the foundation’s annual breakfast. The awards are named in honor of iconic broadcaster Ward L. Quaal and underwritten in his name by The Hubbard Broadcasting Foundation and the McCormick Foundation.
The 2009 recipients are legendary FM radio broadcasting pioneer James Gabbert; the president of the ABC Owned Television Stations Walter Liss; the founder of Clear Channel Communications Lowry Mays; the Taishoff Family, founders of Broadcasting (now Broadcasting & Cable) magazine; the former president of Gannett Broadcasting and BMI Board Chair Cecil Walker and the founder of the Cromwell Group Bayard H. “Bud” Walters.
The presentations will be made on Wednesday morning, April 22, at 7 a.m. at the Monet Ballroom of The Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. There is no charge for admission with attendees the guests of the NAMB, TVB, RAB and the NAB.
In announcing the recipients, BFOA Chair Philip J. Lombardo said, “Once again we are privileged to honor an esteemed group of broadcasters who have left a permanent legacy of commitment to the betterment of the radio and television industry.”
