Media General taps Jim Osman to lead its new Washington bureau that will provide breaking news, political news and analysis, in-depth investigative reporting, and other stories to the company’s television stations in 48 markets nationwide, as well as its content-producing digital businesses.
Media General today announced the opening of a new Washington, D.C., bureau and named Jim Osman, a political and investigative reporter, as its bureau chief.
Media General said its Washington bureau will provide breaking news, political news and analysis, in-depth investigative reporting, and other stories to the company’s television stations in 48 markets nationwide, as well as its content-producing digital businesses.
“Through our Washington, D.C. News Bureau, we will be able to produce and distribute more in-depth coverage and analysis of federal policies and issues that impact the communities we serve,” said Vincent Sadusky, Media General’s president-CEO. “Jim’s background, knowledge and relationships with key constituents on the Hill make him a terrific fit for this new hybrid management and journalist position. We are thrilled he has joined our team.”
Osman has more than 15 years of experience covering state and national political campaigns, creating and reporting impactful stories, leading multimedia teams on various enterprise stories. Most recently, he was contributing reporter for WUSA Washington.
Prior to that role, he was the national investigative correspondent for Scripps Television, where he covered Capitol Hill and Washington-based government accountability.
Osman has also reported for other stations in major markets, including KYW Philadelphia and KNXV Phoenix. In addition to his Regional Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reporting, he has earned two National Emmy Nominations for Outstanding Investigative Reporting and three Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
In his new role, Media General said Osman will be responsible for developing, reporting and sharing original stories of interest to the company’s 71 stations, reporting live for all screens from crisis locations and on breaking news, and managing and recruiting talent in order to grow the Washington bureau.
Osman is an honors graduate with a broadcast journalism degree from the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University. He also completed Georgetown University’s Institute on Political Journalism while interning at NBC News’ Meet the Press with Tim Russert.
