Tribune taps the former GM of its Indianapolis duopoly to succeed Greg Easterly as head of the CW affil and the CLTV cable news channel.
In a rare change of network affiliations in Chicago, the CW Network will move this fall from Tribune Media’s WGN to Fox-owned WPWR, sources said Sunday. The switch, expected to be announced Monday, will return WGN to an independent station with a strictly local programming lineup, starting in September.

Tribune Media is divesting more Chicago real estate. Just months after putting the city’s iconic Tribune Tower on the block, the Chicago-based broadcasting and content development company has announced it is selling the home of Tribune Media-owned WGN-TV that comprises a 10-acre lot with a building housing the CW affiliate and sibling cable news outlet CLTV staff and a surface parking lot.

Cubs Nearing TV Deal With WGN-TV
The Chicago Cubs and Tribune Media’s CW affiliate WGN Chicago may not be breaking up after all. More than a year after the team exercised an option in its contract with the station to opt out after the 2014 season, the two sides are finalizing a new agreement to broadcast 45 games each year through 2019, according to a source close to the negotiations. The team awarded rights to 25 games to ABC O&O WLS last month.
