WAPT Jackson Expands Saturday Late News

Hearst-owned ABC affiliate WAPT Jackson, Miss. (DMA 92), is expanding its Saturday 10 p.m. newscast. Starting Jan. 19, 16 WAPT News at 10 p.m. will air until 11:05, providing a full hour of local news, weather and sports.

WAPT says it will be the only station in the Central Mississippi television market to produce a one-hour latenight newscasts on both Saturday and Sunday.

“Now more than ever, local news matters,” says Mike Neelly, WAPT president-GM. “By adding more news to our weekend lineup we’re able to better serve Central Mississippi with important local news and information, and I’m happy we can offer this expanded local service to our viewers.”

WAPT’s Scott Simmons will anchor the expanded one-hour newscast alongside meteorologist Adam McWilliams and sports director Josh Jackson. The same team also anchors 16 WAPT News at 6 p.m. on Saturday and at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. ABC’s Castle starring Nathan Fillion will continue to follow the Saturday late news and begins at 11:05 p.m.
