NBC Sports Regional Networks Launch Weekly Pro Football Preview Show, ‘Benny Vs. The Penny,’ This Weekend

The NBC Sports Regional Networks are launching a new pro football preview show led by sports radio personality Ben Maller, Benny vs. The Penny, beginning this weekend. The half-hour program, which features sportscaster Tomm Looney as Maller’s sidekick, debuts new editions on weekends through the postseason. (Airdates/times vary by market).

“Benny vs. The Penny will provide entertaining and informative analysis and insightful perspectives covering the week’s matchups,” a company press release said. “As part of the program, Maller will also expand his popular radio show segment in which he analyzes games and selects who he thinks will win, then goes head-to-head against a coin flip to see whose picks are correct – the host or the ‘penny.’”

“I’m thrilled to kick off the new football season by sharing my enduring rivalry with the penny,” said Maller. “It’s going to be a cornucopia of fun for me and the viewers who are watching across the country every weekend. Whether you’re a hardcore or casual fan, or somewhere in between, this will be a very entertaining way to get the insight and information you want before kickoff. I’m excited to bring this idea to TV after so many years of facing off against the penny on the radio.”

Maller is host of The Ben Maller Show on Fox Sports Radio, which has aired overnights nationwide since 2014. Based in Los Angeles, he joined Fox Sports Radio in 2000 and served as an update anchor and weekend talk show host before taking on his current role. Previously, he led a midday show and postgame coverage of the Los Angeles Dodgers for KXTA XTRA Sports 1150.

Looney is a Los Angeles-based talk show host, sports anchor, gameshow host, speaker, voiceover artist and movie producer. He is best known nationally as a seven-year member of the cast of the The Best Damn Sports Show, Period and as a co-host of The JT The Brick Show with Tomm Looney, a nationally syndicated FOX Sports Radio program, for more than 15 years.

Benny vs. The Penny will debut episodes and encore Fridays to Sunday mornings on NBC Sports Regional Networks, which are NBC Sports Bay Area, NBC Sports Boston, NBC Sports California, NBC Sports Chicago and NBC Sports Philadelphia. The program will also be presented on SNY in the New York region and Spectrum SportsNet in Southern California. Check local listings for more information on additional networks and airdates/times.
