WJLA Slots Facebook Live LGBT Roundtable

Tonight’s interactive forum to highlight critical issues facing the area’s local LGBTQ community. It’s scheduled just prior to ABC’s When We Rise miniseries.

Sinclair’s ABC affiliate WJLA Washington will host an LGBTQ roundtable discussion via Facebook Live tonight from 8 to 9 p.m. at the Whitman-Walker Health Center in advance of ABC Network’s premiere of the When We Rise miniseries, which chronicles the real-life personal and political struggles of a diverse family of LGBTQ people who helped pioneer the U.S. equality movement.

Moderated by Lisa Fletcher, WJLA senior investigative reporter, the discussion will focus on key issues within the LGBTQ community including advancements in HIV-AIDS prevention strategies, civil liberties, youth homelessness and the potential impact of changes to the Affordable Care Act. The roundtable will be held in partnership with Whitman-Walker Health and The Capital Pride Alliance.

“We are proud to offer a platform where local members of the LGBTQ community can share personal perspectives of their journey with our viewers. This is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to such an important dialogue,” said WJLA Director of News Mitch Jacob.

Panel participants include Bernie Delia, Capital Pride Alliance Board president; Justin Rush, True Colors Fund; Jordan Long, American Bar Association; Rebecca Kling, National Center for Transgender Equality; Bianca Rey, Capital Pride; Amelie Zurn, Therapist; and Rihanna Buford, Whitman-Walker Health.
