LX News & Telemundo Owned Stations’ Bilingual Podcast ‘My New Favorite Futbolista’ Showcases Stars Of World Cup Qatar

Beginning Nov. 1, LX News – NBCUniversal Local’s TV and streaming network for adults 18-45 – and Telemundo owned stations will present a new English and Spanish-language podcast, My New Favorite Futbolista (Mi Mundialista Favorito), profiling the most-inspiring FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022stars. The eight-part audio and video series, hosted by soccer legend Juan Pablo Ángel and LX News’ Eric Alvarez, is produced in partnership with Telemundo Deportes, the exclusive Spanish-language home of the FIFA World Cup.

My New Favorite Futbolista provides “in-depth narratives covering emerging and established international soccer stars who display passion and commitment off the field by helping others, advocating for change and supporting causes important to their communities.” The featured athletes are expected to represent their countries in the 32-team, 64-match World Cup tournament from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18. Each 15 to 20-minute episode focuses on a different player or team and includes interviews with the athletes, experts and those closest to them, including family.

My New Favorite Futbolista will be available on all major podcast platforms, including Apple, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn and iHeart. Video versions of each episode will be presented on LX News, TeleXitos and NBC owned stations’ 24/7 local news streaming channels, and will be available on-demand at LX.com and Peacock. Ángel was a star striker for leading clubs in his native Colombia, Argentina, England and the United States. He’s the all-time leading Colombian scorer in the English Premier League and Argentine Primera División, recording more than 60 goals for Aston Villa and River Plate across all competitions. He also played six MLS seasons with the New York Red Bulls, L.A. Galaxy and Chivas USA. Ángel represented the Colombian National Team in three World Cup qualifiers.

Co-host Alvarez, a first-time contributor to the podcast franchise, joined LX News in 2021 and leads programs such as LX Explains and LX News Now. He has nearly 15 years of experience covering news, entertainment and sports for television and radio in Spanish and English. Alvarez, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and earned a master’s degree from the University of Southern California, is an avid soccer fan who has attended three FIFA World Cups.
