The sportscaster will be honored during the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s Golden Mike Award fundraising dinner at New York’s Plaza Hotel on March 14.

“There’s never been a better opportunity to make an impact by giving back and helping those in our business who have been hit by tragic and unthinkable circumstances,” said Tim McCarthy, the organization’s co-president.
That donation boosts its 11 years of giving to the foundation to nearly $400,000. All money raised during the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s 11th annual membership drive supports radio and television broadcasters in need.
More than $1.8 million in aid to be awarded in 2021 to colleagues in need. This year’s plea for donations follows a year-and-a-half of several canceled fundraising events due to the COVID 19 pandemic, even as more broadcasters than ever are reaching out for monthly or emergency relief.
As Jim Thompson announces his retirement at the end of 2022, he and Tim McCarthy will serve as co-presidents for a year, after which Thompson will move into a consultant role.
The funds were raised Monday at the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s Celebrity Golf Tournament in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., to support broadcasters in need.
